Tour Overview: Embark on an unforgettable 10-day motorcycle journey through Scotland’s wild Highlands, rugged coastline, and legendary riding roads. From sweeping mountain passes and remote single-track roads to historic castles and island crossings, this tour is built for riders who want to explore deeper, ride further, and truly experience Scotland from the saddle.
Day 1: The Journey North
Kent to Scottish Border: Our adventure begins today as we head North from Kent. We’ll gather at our pre-arranged meeting point, or join us en route if preferred. We’ll enjoy a smooth run up to the Scottish border, where a comfortable hotel and a relaxing evening await us to kick off our first night.
Day 2: Into the Highlands
Scottish Border to Oban: After breakfast, we head North. Watch the landscape transform as the gentle Lowland hills give way to the rugged scenery of the West Highlands. We’ll skirt past Glasgow and quickly find ourselves in a world of deep lochs and soaring mountains. Our destination is the "Gateway to the Isles"-Oban, where we’ll settle in for the night at our hotel with views of the harbour.
Day 3: The Road to the Isles
Oban to Kyleakin(Isle of Skye): Leaving Oban, we’ll head inwards to the famous Glen Coe, riding through the mist and mountains, with views of the three sisters mountain range that will take your breath away as we continue North following the West Highland Way towards Fort William. Enjoy some time in the shadow of Ben Nevis before we ride the stunning coastal roads to The Isle of Skye, stopping to see the famous Harry Potter bridge (Glenfinnan Viaduct). After our day of Glens and Giants, we’ll finish at our hotel in the small village of Kyleakin with amazing views of the Skye Bridge.
Day 4: The Wild West
Skye to Applecross: Fuel up with a hearty breakfast before we spend the day exploring the Isle of Skye, where the true Scottish wilderness begins. After the jagged peaks, castles, and beaches of Skye, we head back to the mainland for the day's grand finale: the legendary Bealach na Bà (Applecross Pass). This ascent to Applecross offers some of the most dramatic views in Britain. A well-earned rest at our hotel awaits us just outside the village.
Day 5: The Width of Scotland
Applecross to Dingwall: We continue to follow the single track road to the shores of Loch Maree, then we cross inland. Winding through some of the most remote and beautiful scenery Scotland has to offer. It’s a slightly shorter day, giving us the perfect balance of technical riding and a chance to recharge and take in some authentic local experiences at our hotel in the market town of Dingwall. We’ll be perfectly positioned to tackle more of the NC500 tomorrow.
Day 6: The Edge of the North
Dingwall to Tongue: Today, we push for the summit of mainland Britain. We’ll ride up the East Coast, winding through historic fishing villages and softer, rolling landscapes. Our goal? John o'Groats—the iconic "end of the road." After the obligatory photo op, we turn West along the very top of Scotland. The road to Tongue is nothing short of exhilarating, offering vast Atlantic views and rugged cliffs. We’ll finish the day in our hotel in the quiet village of Tongue, tucked between the mountains and the sea.
Day 7: The Lonely Road
Tongue to Drumnadrochit: Prepare for a day of pure, uninterrupted riding. We start by crossing the North Coast before diving South onto the technical and stunning A838. This is "The Lonely Road" - with mile after mile of nothing but wilderness, this dramatic stretch is once-in-a-lifetime riding. At the end of the road is the village of Lairg for a look at the ‘wee house’. Inverness is the next leg of the journey and onwards towards Loch Ness. Keep your eyes on the road; there's plenty of time to look for Nessie at our hotel that evening in Drumnadrochit.
Day 8: Through the Cairngorms
Drumnadrochit to Perth: We bid farewell to Loch Ness and head into the towering peaks of the Cairngorms National Park. This is Highland riding at its finest—sweeping roads, shimmering lochs, and ancient pine forests. We’ll wind our way south, crossing the heart of Scotland through the dramatic Pass of Drumochter before the landscape softens into the lush greenery of Perthshire, the big tree county. Today's journey concludes in the historic Fair City of Perth, where our hotel puts you in the perfect spot to relax and explore the vibrant riverside and city centre.
Day 9: The Scenic Return
Perth to North Yorkshire: We kick off the day with a ride across the iconic Forth Road Bridge, offering a world-class view of the Firth of Forth. After skirting Edinburgh, we hit the A68. Known for its "rollercoaster" feel, ride through the hills of the Scottish Borders then we’ll cross the border back into England, pausing for a final panoramic look at Scotland. Our final night’s stay at our hotel in North Yorkshire is the perfect place to toast an epic journey.
Day 10: The Final Leg
North Yorkshire to Home: It’s the last day of an unforgettable tour. We’ll head south together until you need to take your own route home to reflect on our trip, share your photos and stories, and of course, start planning your next MOTORCYCLE ADVENTURE WITH AMT.
